Research Activities

Dr. Pierangelo Veltri is an Assistant Professor of Computer Engineering at University “Magna Græcia” of Catanzaro, Italy, since 2002. He received his Ph.D. in computer science in 2002, from University of Orsay (Paris XI) and he was researcher at INRIA Rocquencourt, France from 1998 to 2002. From 1998 to 2000 he was member of the Verso group and he participated to the Chorochronous project (1998-1999) and at the Xyleme project (1999-2001). From 2002 he participates to several projects, whose main topics are pure computer science (such as Grid computing, geographical and temporal databases, XML views) and bioinformatics topics (spectra data analysis for cancer prevention, proteomics, prediction of protein structures, microarray analysis). His main research interests are:

  • Bioinformatics and Information System for Medicine:
    • protein structure prediction; protein/peptide identification from mass spectrometry data; mass spectra data management; microarray analysis; cell activity modelling and simulation; Electronic patient records management
  • Data bases:
    • XML and Semi-structured Database, Views, data modelling, spatial databases and geographic information system; data security
  • Grid Computing
  • Parallel Computing

Member of the project for the definition of a datwarehouse of XML documents (an INRIA verso project). Responsible of the definition of a View mechanism for querying XML documents. The view system prototype, has been developed during the INRIA visiting, and integrated into the Xyleme system. The system is now sold by a company (www.xyleme.com)

Resposible of the designino and implementation of a SQL parser for a constraintbased SQL language for spatial database. The system prototype, named Dedale, has been developed during the INRIA visiting.
